the big heap

we met and had so many awesome guest into the vintage bruja boo'tique. everyone appreciated our 63' shasta renovation!

we met so many amazing guest that appreciated all of our handmade artworks, leather works, and illustrations
all the guest were greeted with the coolest chalk art that Lori drew in the entry way!

this colorful greeting just set the mood for what was to come!
the venue was set amongst beautiful green trees. It wa hard to believe we were in arizona, surrounded with such lush greenery everywhere! the weather was perfect, 85 degrees. and yes, its a typical flagstaff summer? We had some monsoon rain, but nothing to crazy & nothing to stop the customers from coming to the event!
We had the most fun and warm greeting from people that drove in from "the valley"! {phoenix}

I am such a cali girl, that when someone would ask if we too, drove in from the valley, I would respond, "no! from orange county!" duh? san fernando valley is way to far!!!
yup! that was my answer! I felt like such a dork! after I realized what they meant by "the valley", when they would ask, I would laugh in my head and say no! hehe ...CA.

here are just a few pics of the amazing customers we encountered that just loved & appreciated our work!

very awesome and genuine people! everything that surrounded us made this trip worth it!

thank u all that came by to support us and our the work we love doing! all the men and women that enjoyed entering our Boo'tique, thank u for all ur compliments an words of encouragement! It was a pleasure to service u all and talk with most of our guest!
here's an article in the local paper about Victor & I, and about our vision for our products and their market

my hats off to u, until we meet again @ the big heap november!

diy necklace display

do u ever wonder how u can display your really loooong necklaces?
well, here i'll share an idea I had, when i tried to figure out how we could get more long necklaces displayed in our mobile shop.

I. first, I took off the velvet that covered the cardboard necklace display. then, started gluing paper flower from the neck of the display down!

simple glue gun will work when placing ur paper flowers on the cardboard portion of ur necklace display.
II. once the display is covered with flowers, find and old candle holder, and spray paint ur base the color u would like.

once ur base is dry, glue ur necklace display to give it some height.

III.  after the display is glued and dry, take ur spray paint and give ur entire display 2 coats of paint, including the flowers.
IV. grab a drill, decide where u want to place ur door knobs on ur display.

V. after u have decided where to place ur door knob / necklace holders where they will conveniently be out of the way of ur center focal necklace.

VI. Finis
You are all done!!

our cinderfella story

Vic and I were estate sale "picking" 6 months ago! We were on a mission to "pick" buried treasures! When we came across this jacket in an online picture both Vic and i looked at each other and said,
We have GOT to have it!
We get to the estate sale an put our names on the list. We are #6 & #7 on the list! Mind you, we arrived at this home at about 4am!
Doors to the sale open @ 7am, so there were are! excited.
They open up the doors to the estate sale, and they let the first 10 names on the list go through... and
BOOOM!!
The race between us and the people ahead of us....was on!
Victor runs up the stairs, I go to the left of the house. Man, could hear Vic running back and forth upstairs!and i'm picking stuff up left and right downstairs.
Then I hear Vic asking about the jacket. I'm thinking...crap, time isn't on our side because the next 10 are going to be coming in soon! shoot!!! shoot!!! shoot!!!
I continue looking through a pile of clothes of the room I'm in and ....
ta da!
Laying on a nearby table waiting for me is the 1940's bomber jacket!
I yell, "V! I found the jacket!" I go throughout the estate yelling to V, because i don't know where he is, I'm just yelling in the house, "Hay V, I found it!!! I have the jacket "
Vic comes down the stairs sweating, the house was a bit stuffy, with a look of relief, and says, "phew! Sweet!"
Flash forward, 6 mos. we've had this bomber jacket out and about for awhile. But the men that had tried it on, just didn't fit the bill!
I knew when I picked up that jacket, I could visualize the guy that this jacket would be a perfect fit! But none of these men were "Cinderfella".
Time and time we would get men that would try the jacket on, but again, because I visualized the guy that would fit the jacket, I already knew, it just wasn't going to be a match! So I never pushed the sell!

Until...
Sunday March 3, the last day of the event @ the vintage marketplace! I'm packing up our things neatly because we have another event right around the corner, Glitterfest! I'm displaying a necklace on my miniature mannequin when I hear a voice behind say, " I gotta have that jacket!" I looked up, because i'm facing the jacket, and knew instinctively
...it was him!
i turned around and when I looked up at the voice, there he was...the guy I had visualized, would be the perfect fit for this jacket!
I just knew it! without trying to look or sound creepy, i could just hear my inner voice saying, " He's {the jacket} been waiting for u!"
Still trying not to sound tooo excited in addition to creepy, I said, "would u like to try it on? And if u don't decide to take the jacket, that's fine but can I still take a picture of u in the jacket"
The boy replied, "sure!"
I knew from the moment this kid took his "members only" jacket off, that this jacket was going to fit like a glove and it was going home with him!
In my heart, I just had this feeling from the moment I looked up from hanging my necklace that these two would go down as...
a historical "pick" for Vic and I!
Victor took our 100 year old steamer trunk, laid it down, put the vintage military cots on the floor, added another trunk behind the young man, and...
voila!

Our Cinderfella Story comes to an amazing end!
Thank u all for staying tuned!!
Hope the story was worth the wait!

our vintage trailer

as luck would have it, we found our lil' shasta trailer here in CA!! it was love at first sight! i had a vision for her. i wanted to restore her and get her lookin' all pretty again! i still have that hope, that she is going to get her groove back, but until then, she has to go down in history and be an illustrated part of our family.

so as i was laying down one afternoon, i thought, since financially, she's not on the priority list of expenditures, why don't i illustrate her! why, don't i show off what i am dreaming about for her future?...hehehe! and of course, in the doodling process, the chandelier in the windows was born.
aaaaahhhh! yes...she has to have a "chandy" in the area we eat, and
a welcoming "chandy" to bless all that come in.
we want the "chandy" to shed light over any darkness coming in or out of our living space. right?

and then, of course, hearts coming out of the top, because sunlight comes in to give us life. so have to give life, alot of love!!! we have to love the life we live because everyday we live is a gift from the almighty heavens above!!!
and last, our vintage trailer is blazing a trail of hearts, because every road we meet, needs to be approach with love and consideration. even if you've gone down that road before, you still have to go down that path with lots of love and no fear!!!

prints are available this weekend at the vintage marketplace, in fallbrook, ca.
but if you can't make it out, prints are now available

happy valentine's day!!

bulldog love
as i continue on this creative venture,
i am always reminded of my four legged furry friends that i love and that are so dear to me. this illustration is of an english bulldog, "greta" that we had adopted, loved and was a part of our family for a year. she always sat with this one foot in the weirdest way...and always looked so uncomfortable....but she'd fall asleep, sitting up just like this!

when we lost all of our material belongings in the market crash 3.5 years ago, we lost "greta" as well. she had to be returned to her breeder, because the house we moved to, didn't allow pets, let alone 3. since the other 2 dogs, were small, the owner gave us some what of an ultimatum.

so, with that said, on this valentine's day, 2013, i'd like to gift to u with...a digital illustration, of "greta" in the hopes that her lovely, amazing personality, will remind you, that no matter if you have a loved one near or far, their touching spirit, just like "greta" will always embrace you and your surrounding and that they will forever be in our heart...
gretarrrrrs!!!

vintage bruja wearable art

vintage bruja wearable art
i say wearable art, because no matter what idea i have for a jewelry piece, i get lost in the process, and the piece becomes it's own thing. over the years i have learned to just appreciate the process more than the outcome, because each piece takes on a life of it's own. i say, i'm going to make an 18 in necklace.... i literally ended up with the picture below...

anyway, at the grand opening of a local brick and mortar store, bauhausu, long beach, ca that is housing vintage bruja designs and my husbands handmade leather goods, cerdafied leather! it was an a great feeling of accomplishment! clients were asking questions about our jewelry line, leather, and illustrations. we were able to talk about the process it takes to go from hide to goods. i also was asked were i get my inspiration for jewelry and illustrations, and...i had stage fright!!! hehehe.

i don't know when it's going to come on...but when stage fright happens, it can be debilitating for about 2 seconds for the average person, but in my world...it's...just way too long. after my eternity has passed...i was able to get my thought out and speak.

it's so embarrassing sometimes...and then my anxiety sweats take a toll for another 2 minutes....and then i can keep it moving!! crazy right? all that in a matter of 5 minutes of reality time.

thanks for stopping by
besos xoxoxoxo

glitterfest spring 2013

just announced and excited to be a part of:
omg! one of my favorite events, as an attendee but  now i have the privilege of saying, that, .....victor and i will be selling our fun and whimsical leather goods!!!! whooo hoooo!
so... save the date...it's a spectacular event with an entry fee of $7. U get a room full of amazing inspiring decor to house the talented artist that submit their work to sell!!! it really is a glittery event with lots of fun and happy people!!
i always know that my $7 to get into this wonderland of eye candy is always worth it!! You get to see things that just blow your mind away with how amazing each artists' imagination works!!
If your an artist, you can go into the event and just appreciate all the kindred minds and spirits that embody who u are! not to say...i can make that!
even in stand up comedy, if a comedian likes your work, and what u wrote speaks to them and it fits their set...they have the unspoken rule, to ask the originator of the joke, if they can use it in their set, and pay u for it! it may be $10 every time they use it...but if they blow up...they never forget the lil' comedians that helped. $10 could become $500 a week to write for them...u never know?
anyway, an artist creates new and exciting things!!! it's awesome! and then maybe, someday, you will be like us, mentioning, that u too have been judged by the jury and have pass the inspection to show your artwork and creations!!!
i'm excited! I hope u can join all the fun!

CHA 2013

craft and hobby association conference
this was my first time attending CHA, and let me say...so fun!!! I love being around kindred spirits of creativity, art, and most important...business. it is where artist and real business meet. how can anything be better than that. well, it gets better.... i have friends that are partaking in this event and are very successful. writing books, developing products, and are just creative masterminds behind all the things i love....EVERYTHING PAPER!!!
jenny doh
{http://www.crescendoh.com}
oh! jenny doh! yup! she is just...., to me...what i call... bad ass!!! she is the nicest, warmest, and most kind power house of a women you can meet! i make her laugh...and she makes me think hard about my next move. it's nice to have someone you can bounce the craziest dreams and ideas, in an open and vulnerable situation...and know that even if they laugh at you....you are still in a safe place. i'm imagining, when your a women with an important title, you have to watch how you say things because people are always judging your mannerism, character, and motives.
jenny just gives it to me... i already left my ego at the door, so all i can do is......i just take it...and know that walking away, i just became a better person! it's nice. if you get a chance, take a class at her studio slash publishing office. she holds classes there with some great artist. she also teaches on the topic of publishing and time management. she is a true pioneer women making a path for her own destiny! i love it!!
kristen robinson
{http://www.iceresin.com/kristen-robinson/}
i met kristen awhile back. i was just beginning to grow my art wings again, and just launch vintage bruja, and there she was, at an art retreat in los angeles, selling jewlery she made. that's when i saw...a black necklace with a witch flying on a broom as a silhouette. stop it!
i knew it was meant to be. i paid, went on with the event...and decided i was going to represent my new purchase. so, i take my little necklace out of the bag, put it on...it was fittn' a bit snug. my girlfriend made me laugh, and that witch went flying!!!! the charm would flip up and stay erect on my neck until i stopped laughing! hahaha! i took my sexy self over to kristen and said, chunky girls need an extra link. she was so sweet, she smiled took the necklace and hooked me up. that was almost 3 years ago. and now...i was so excited to see her new line of jewelery finding with matching stencils
you can use with an awesome product called ice resin by susan lenart kazmer!

tim holtz
{http://timholtz.com/blog/}
haaaa! mr tim holtz! i just want to work with him. he seems like a fun guy to work for and with...but to also gain informathttp://www.iceresin.com/kristen-robinson/http://www.iceresin.com/kristen-robinson/http://www.iceresin.com/kristen-robinson/ ion regarding the business' he has launched. he's not only approachable, but he has so much knowledge in his products and passionate about the tricks they can do...even if you're like me, and don't scrapbook as often anymore...he makes u want to get back into it, guns blazing!! he happens to have a great product line with two of the companies we custom order our products.
meeting him was just a personal goal! and yay! i put it out there in the universe...and made it happen!

kathy murillo "craffy chica"
{http://www.craftychica.com/}
another artist i put out in the universe to meet was, the "crafty chica". i feel like she is my latina sister from another mister!!! she wrote a book and named it "la casa loca" which means crazy house. and i'll be darn...i have a sign that we've had for about 12 years that is displayed on our door that reads, "casa de locos" which is house of coocoo's!!
she has been an inspiration for latina artist like myself. we call kathy in "the hood",  la marta e'stewart!!! hehehe... there are very few successful approachable latinas in the art business, and i have to admit... kathy murillo and jennifer lopez, have been my favorites!!! they are confident in their skin, and what they do. they are and have been in a place were sharing is caring. they are not worried that "priscilla" asking questions about their business and is coming up the ranks. heheehe. for them...it's just another latina in the struggle and trying to make things happen! u gotta' love it!
